The 10th class, training preparing for basic vocational education (VALMA), and preparatory training for general upper secondary education (LUVA) will be combined into one preparatory education for programs leading to an upper secondary qualification, abbreviated as TUVA education. The change will enter into force on August 1, 2022.
TUVA education is meant for students who have no upper secondary education degree and who, for some reason, need preparatory education. TUVA education aims to provide such learning skills with which the student performs education leading to an upper secondary education degree.
Apply for TUVA education in the joint application, on the same form with which you apply for high school and vocational basic degree. Next spring’s application period is from February 22 to March 22, 2022. When applying for TUVA education, you do not yet have to know whether you want to continue in high school education or in vocational education. In the joint application, primarily those subject to compulsory education who have a basic education graduation certificate or a corresponding certificate and live in Vantaa will be chosen for TUVA education arranged by the City of Vantaa.
During TUVA education, you can
raise your basic education grades
perform high-school and vocational-education studies
strengthen your study skills.
The scope of TUVA education amounts to 38 weeks, and the maximum performance time is one year. Students can also participate in TUVA education for a shorter period, based on their goals and competency needs. Thereafter, they can flexibly transfer to high school or vocational education.
Vantaa education and learning committee decided in its meeting on October 11, 2021, that TUVA education will be arranged in Vantaa under the authority of Vantaa Vocational College Varia. Furthermore, in its meeting on September 21, 2021, the education and learning committee decided that 210 starting places be allocated for TUVA education for the 2022-2023 school year.
