Vantaa nominated as the European Rising Innovative City
Vantaa is one of eight cities that the European Innovation Council (EIC) has chosen as the European Rising Innovative City semi-finalists. The EIC awards cities for the first time in two population-based categories.
The European Innovation Council has already for several years chosen a European Capital of Innovation among cities of more than a quarter million residents. The new European Rising Innovative City award is now granted for the first time. Cities with 50,000 - 249,000 residents are eligible to enter the competition.
The European Capital of Innovation (iCapital) prize amounts to €1 million, whereas the winner of the European Rising Innovative City will reap €500,000. Two other cities will also be awarded in both of the above categories. The awards will be given as part of The European Capital of Innovation Awards program.
Both awards are granted as an acknowledgement of successful local-level innovation work and development of operations supporting innovations. The nominated cities will be judged, among other things, on how well they have
developed such ecosystems that combine actors in the city’s different sectors, promote innovations, and increase the residents’ wellbeing,
helped the local actors to develop novel operating models and tools as test platforms, as well as
supported businesses in accelerating their growth.
The winners will be published when The European Capital of Innovation Awards is arranged on November 24-25, 2021. You can follow the nominated cities and the event on social media, hashtag #iCapitalAwards.
