People with a verified coronavirus infection; on-call dental care is provided at HUS Emergency Department, oral and maxillofacial unit.

You will receive more detailed instructions when you make the appointment.

Orthodontics during the Coronavirus epidemic

  • Continue to use your orthodontic device as instructed. If you have questions about the instructions, you can send your questions through Maisa.
  • If your orthodontic device breaks, or parts of it fall down, or if it feels painful in your mouth, call the appointment service, tel. 09 8393 5300
  • If you are using rubber bands and need more of them, contact us through Maisa or call the appointment service, tel. 09 8393 5300, so that we can mail you more rubber bands.
  • Changing / inquiring your appointment through the appointment service.

Emergency care in the evening, at night, over the weekend

  • For the entire population emergency care at Haartman hospital (Haartmaninkatu 4, 00290 Helsinki, building 12).
  • Mon-Fri: 14:00–21:00, Sat, Sun and holidays: 8:00–21:00.
  • Treatment by appointment only, tel. 09 471 71110.
  • Customer fee for emergency evening and weekend dental care is €32.10/visit (free of charge for under-18-year-olds).
  • Haarman Hospital's emergency oral and dental care is meant for residents of Espoo, Helsinki, Kauniainen, Kirkkonummi, Sipoo, and Vantaa.

Emergency night dental care from 21:00 to 8:00.

Severe injuries

  • Severe dental, oral and maxillofacial injuries are treated around the clock at Töölö Hospital (Töölönkatu 40).

Oral Health Care's Criteria for Urgent Care

  • Swelling
  • Limited mouth opening
  • Mouth does not close
  • Swallowing difficulties
  • Fever with any of the previous symptoms
  • Dental injuries
  • Mouth ulcers
  • Bleeding e.g. after a tooth removal, if mouth keeps filling with blood rapidly
  • Intense pain that does not respond to painkillers
  • Pain lasts long, even when the tooth is not exposed to irritation such as heat and cold
  • Pain interrupts sleep
  • Chipped tooth, if any of the above symptoms occur
  • A large chip in front tooth that affects appearance
  • Broken fixed orthodontic appliance which feels uncomfortable and cannot be eased with gum or orthodontic wax

Non-urgent Care

  • Mild pain that can be eased with painkillers
  • Sensitivity to heat and cold
  • Chipped tooth or filling
