Influenza vaccinations

Seasonal influenza is a respiratory tract infection that may cause severe complications that can lead to inpatient care. The flu vaccine is the best protection against influenza. Seasonal flu viruses are constantly changing, which is why last year’s seasonal flu vaccine will not protect you against the coming seasonal influenza.

Influenza vaccinations for the inner circle of those belonging to the risk groups

Another risk group for free-of-charge vaccines consists of the inner circle of people especially vulnerable to severe influenza. This fall, the Government specified with a degree the meaning of inner circle in such a way that it now includes people who live with or are weekly in contact with a person especially vulnerable to severe influenza. The degree is meant to ensure sufficiency of the vaccines for the people belonging to the risk groups.

People especially vulnerable to severe influenza consist of:

  • people with severe immunodeficiency (link to THL’s website, in Finnish)
  • severely ill people (link to THL’s website, in Finnish)
  • people vulnerable to severe influenza who cannot take the vaccine
  • people with underlying conditions and infirm people ages 65 and older
  • under-six-month-old children
  • pregnant women.

If you do not belong to the vaccination target group, you can get a prescription from a pharmacy. You can ask for the prescription by calling Vantaa health centers’ phone service.

Bring the vaccine you bought with you and it will be administered to you at the vaccination point.
