Welfare Work in Pre-primary Education
Welfare work in pre-primary education involves ensuring the children's overall wellbeing.
Pre-primary welfare work includes:
- precautionary communal welfare work which includes supporting the wellbeing of the pre-primary community with the help of various methods
- individual welfare work which includes the counseling bureau's health services, psychologist and curator services, and the services of a multidisciplinary team of experts
Matters considering the overall wellbeing of the pre-primary community are handled by community welfare teams. The community welfare team consists of the directors of local ECEC-centers arranging pre-primary education, representative of pre-primary education teachers, psychologist, student advisor, public-health nurse, and representative of guardians. Guardians can ask directors of ECEC-centers about the possibility of participating in community welfare team activities.
A multidisciplinary team of experts can be summoned to handle an individual child's case when needed. The family can also use the services of a curator, a psychologist, and the counseling bureau.
The aim of the welfare work is to create a healthy and safe learning environment. The mission is to promote the welfare of the whole community and strengthen its operational culture. A functional community has a safe and trusting environment. All members of the community have the possibility to influence the development and operations of the unit. A central goal of the welfare work is to create a solid base for learning through tight cooperation between pre-primary education and basic education.
